The Benefits of Ayurvedic Marma Therapy

Regular massage can have tremendous healing benefits both physiologically and psychologically on the body and the mind, hence why it is a recommended daily practice for all ages.  Massage can be used to help a person relax to combating more specific aches and pains, acting as a preventive practice to keep the whole body and internal systems in optimum health.

The historic practice of marmapuncture (Ayurvedic Acupuncture) is a relaxing treatment experience in which the marma points are stimulated by the external application of sterile single-use disposable needle piericing the skin onto specific marma points.  This impact awakens the immune responses, allowing the smooth flow of  vital energy that connects the internal organs, from which health can be maintained or re-established.

Marma points are seen as “gates” through which the healing, sustaining, and vitalizing life force enters the body, they have a potential for harmonizing all aspects of the physical and mental systems.  Stimulating them can have tremedous benefits including:

The Importance of Marma Points

The 107 points located in the body are specific anatomical locations in the body through which energy (prana - body's life force) is believed to flow.  Physically, the marma points are found where tendons, bones, muscles, joints, veins, nerves, and other tissues meet.  Each marma point has its own unique name and associated health benefit.  When energy flows freely into the marma points, there is health. If, however, the energy becomes stagnant or its flow is disrupted, then health is impaired.

Ayurveda believes that healing comes from within the body itself, so when these marma points are stimulated, they encourage the body to work on ailments and pain.  Gentle massage on these points can remove stagnant energy or blockages in the pathways by bringing the correct energy flow to the body, mind and soul.

Marmas are also recognised as neuro-lymphatic points, they can stimulate the lymph glands, which increases immunity, as well as relieving muscle stiffness, boost circulation and support the nervous system.
