Baby Massage Course: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Here are some frequently asked questions to help you prepare before your session.
Q. What age is Baby Massage for?
-
Baby Massage is suitable from birth until the active crawling stage. We generally recommend joining after your baby’s 6-week check-up, as babies are often more settled, their skin is less sensitive, and any developmental concerns can be identified beforehand.
Q. What should my baby wear in class?
-
Comfortable clothing that is easy to remove is ideal. During Baby Massage, babies are usually undressed down to their nappy to allow for massage.
Q. What do I need to bring to class?
-
Please bring a soft towel or blanket for your baby to lie on during the class. Mats for both parent and baby are provided.
Q. What oil is used in Baby Massage?
-
Cold-pressed organic sunflower oil is provided throughout the course. It is gentle, natural, fragrance-free, and suitable for delicate baby skin. Patch tests can be carried out on request if needed.
Q. Do I need to prepare before the class?
-
No preparation is needed — simply come dressed comfortably and ready to relax and enjoy the experience with your baby. We also recommend keeping nails short and tying back long hair for comfort and safety.
Q. Can I bring my partner or a grandparent?
-
Absolutely. One additional adult is welcome to attend with you. Please let us know in advance so we can prepare an extra space. To help your baby feel settled and avoid confusion, we recommend that one person carries out the massage during each session.
Q. What if my baby cries, feeds, or sleeps during class?
-
Our classes are completely baby-led, with no pressure to follow the routine if your baby needs feeding, changing, cuddling, or sleep. You are always encouraged to respond to your baby’s needs at any time. We aim to create a calm, nurturing, and supportive environment where both you and your baby feel relaxed and comfortable.
-
Weighted dolls are also available if your baby chooses to sleep during the session.
Q. What if my baby is unwell?
-
If your baby is unwell or experiencing any of the following, we recommend avoiding massage and not attending class until they are feeling better:
-
High temperature or fever
-
Acute infection
-
Within 48 hours of immunisations
-
Vomiting or severe diarrhoea
-
Severe allergies
-
Open wounds or skin conditions
-
Unhealed umbilical cord
-
Swollen lymph nodes
-
Blood clots or blood conditions
-
Recent surgery

If you are unsure, please feel free to contact us for guidance.
Q. How many people are in each class?
-
Classes are intentionally kept small, with a maximum of 8 participants, creating a calm, supportive, and nurturing environment.
Q. What happens if I miss a class?
-
Due to our small class sizes, missed sessions are non-refundable. However, if space is available within the same term, we will do our best to offer a catch-up session.
-
Detailed handouts are also provided to support your practice at home.
Q. My baby was premature, can we still attend?
-
Yes, although we recommend attending as close to your baby’s corrected age as possible due to their delicate skin, bones, and developing immune system.
