Baby Yoga Course: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some frequently asked questions that may help you prepare before your session.

Q. What age is Baby Yoga for?

  • Baby Yoga is suitable from eight weeks (providing your baby was full-term).  However as the moves and positions can be physically demanding, we recommend that you wait until twelve weeks if you had a cesarean section and are bringing your baby to class.

Q. What is the difference between Baby Yoga Beginner vs Advanced Baby Yoga?

  • True Ananda Baby Yoga courses have been thoughtfully divided into beginners and advanced sessions based on the age and development stage of the baby:

    • Baby Yoga Beginners: A perfect starting point for your baby's yoga journey. Tailored for the early stages of development, this course introduces gentle movements, stretches, and interactive practices. It is designed to nurture the bond between you and your baby while providing a foundation for their physical and sensory exploration. Ideal for babies from 8 eight weeks, this course lays the groundwork for a positive and enjoyable experience with baby yoga

    • Advanced Baby Yoga: As your baby grows and develops, the Advanced Baby Yoga course takes their yoga journey to the next level. While no prior attendance is required, it's recommended that your baby can confidently hold their head without support, typically around 16 weeks. This advanced class introduces more dynamic moves and interactive practices, catering to the evolving abilities of your baby. It's a continuation of joyful exploration, emphasising enhanced movements and engagement

    • There is no upper age limit for Baby Yoga, but the duration of participation is determined by your ability to comfortably hold and lift your baby during the sessions. As your baby grows and becomes too heavy to lift, transitioning to True Ananda Children's Yoga classes is suggested for their continued exploration and development

Q. What should my baby wear in class?

  • Comfortable clothing that is easy to remove.  In Baby Yoga, it is recommended that your baby wears just their vest and nappy to prevent them from getting too hot.

Q. Do I need to do any preparation before the class?

  • Not at all, just be prepared to immerse yourself in an enriching and rewarding experience.  We recommend that you are dressed comfortably, trim your nails to protect your baby from any scratches, and tie back any long hair.

Q. Can I bring my partner or grandparent to the class?

  • Absolutely! You can bring one extra person with you to class. Please inform us beforehand so we can set up an extra place. However, we recommend only one person conduct the massage or yoga routine with the baby during the session to avoid confusion and disruption to the baby.

Q. What if my baby doesn't want to participate, cries, or naps in class?

  • Our courses are completely baby-led, as we work with the baby by respecting their choice, acknowledging their states, and reading their cues. Our classes are a learning environment where there is no pressure to follow the routine if it's not the right time for you or your baby, instead, you are encouraged to cater to their requirements at any time. We have created a nurturing and informal space, where you should feel relaxed to do as you need to.  We have spare weighted dolls to practice on if your baby decides to nap during the session.

Q. What if my baby does not feel well?

  • If your baby is experiencing any of the following conditions or is unwell, then it is recommended NOT to massage your baby, conduct baby yoga, or attend a class with your baby:

    • High fever or temperature

    • An acute infection

    • Within 48 hrs of immunisation

    • Severe allergies

    • Open wound or skin disorders

    • Vomiting

    • Severe diarrhoea

    • Unhealed umbilical cord

    • Swollen lymph nodes

    • Blood clots or blood condition

    • Recent surgery

Q. How many people are in each class?

  • Maximum 8 participants per class. Our intentionally small class sizes provide a safe, comfortable, and nurturing space.

Q. What happens if I miss a class?

  • Due to small class sizes, missed classes can't be refunded. However, if there's space available on the same course during that term, we'll do our best to move you to a catch-up class. Detailed handouts for each session are provided for reference and practice at home.

Q. My baby was premature, can we come to class?

  • Due to a baby's delicate skin, bones, and immunity, it's essential to attend class as near to their corrected age as possible. If you're unsure, please send us a message for guidance.
