Therapeutic Yoga Practices: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some frequently asked questions to help you prepare before your session.

Q. Who can have Yoga Therapy or Yogic Breathing sessions?

Yoga Therapy and Yogic Breathing are suitable for most adults looking to support physical, mental, and energetic wellbeing.

They can be especially helpful for those experiencing stress, fatigue, low energy, restricted breathing patterns, stiffness, emotional imbalance, or nervous system dysregulation.

If you have any ongoing medical conditions, respiratory concerns, or injuries, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider before booking.

Q. What should I wear for the session?

Wear loose, comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement and natural breathing.

All sessions are fully clothed, and all equipment including mats, bolsters, cushions, and blankets is provided.

Q. What happens during a session?

Yoga Therapy sessions may include:

  • Personalised yoga postures tailored to your needs

  • Gentle stretches and joint mobility work

  • Cleansing practices (kriya-based techniques)

  • Relaxation or guided meditation

  • Lifestyle and self-care guidance

Each session is fully adapted to your current state, goals, and dosha (functional principles).

Yogic Breathing (Pranayama) sessions may include:

  • Guided breathwork techniques

  • Practices for stress reduction and emotional balance

  • Breath awareness and mindfulness exercises

  • Optional integration with gentle movement or meditation

All breathing practices are carefully selected and adapted to your energy levels, constitution, and needs.

Q. Are the breathing and cleansing techniques safe?

Yes — all techniques used are gentle, accessible, and tailored to your comfort level.

More advanced practices are only introduced when appropriate, and a full consultation ensures everything is selected safely for your individual needs.

Q. Do I need to prepare anything before my session?

No special preparation is required, but we recommend:

  • Arriving a few minutes early to settle

  • Avoiding heavy meals 1–2 hours beforehand

  • Staying well hydrated

  • Avoiding caffeine or stimulants before your session

Q. What if I’m feeling stressed, anxious, or tense?

These sessions are especially supportive if you are experiencing stress, overwhelm, shallow breathing, emotional fatigue, or mental restlessness.

Your therapist will guide you through slow, grounding, and restorative techniques to support calm, balance, and nervous system regulation.

Q. Are there any conditions where I should avoid these sessions?

You should postpone or avoid Yoga Therapy or Yogic Breathing if you have:

General contraindications:

Q. Can I book consecutive sessions?

Yes — regular practice is encouraged. Your therapist can recommend a frequency based on your individual goals and needs.
